Ms. Gilboy's Class

Welcome to Ms. Gilboy's Second Grade!

Teachers call 2nd grade the "fine tuning" year: Children are polishing the reading and writing skills that were introduced in kindergarten and 1st grade. They're also starting to ask "why" all over again, and they're much more likely to understand your answers than ever before. They may even start to reason their way through their own questions. We begin to explore writing in a more detailed manner. Students begin to see stories in a way that separates concepts into a beginning, middle, and end. In math, students have their facts down and are continuing to practice them daily. We are building on their knowledge from last year and will expound on these facts using strategies to make recall more rapid. We build on concepts of place value, time, money, and more. The children have Social Studies with Mrs. Sabetti and Science with myself. The students at Hanover Elementary have varied special subjects and numerous extra curricular activities in which they can be involved.
